Skiing

The Black River State Forest has 25 miles of the finest cross-country ski trails in Wisconsin. The trails are groomed for skaters and traditional skiers and provide a variety of skill levels, from beginner to expert. Forested, hilly terrain offering splendid scenic views combine with stretches of level landscape.

Jackson County's Wazee Park now provides 11 miles of ungroomed cross-country ski trails, just east of Black River Falls. The trails give the skier a beautiful view of Wazee Lake.

If cross-country skiing is your winter fun, the Black River State Forest has 24 miles of groomed trails. Wazee Park has 11 miles of ungroomed trails, which offer a view of Wazee Lake. Perrot State Park has nine miles of groomed trails. Mount La Crosse offers downhill skiing with 18 downhill slopes and snowboarding. Bruce Mound-Merrillan offers downhill skiing, snow tubing and T-Bars. Located 3 miles northwest of Hatfield.

Lunda Community Park in Black River Falls offers snow tubing, sledding, a skate pond, warming building & refreshments.

Winter adventure awaits you in Black River Country. Cross-country ski or snowshoe the Black River State Forest and Jackson County Forest. Snowmobilers can ride 300 miles of well-groomed trails. And Black River Country offers hundreds of miles of top-notch ATV trails.

Anglers will find excellent ice fishing on Lake Arbutus and the Black River. And Wazee Lake offers scuba diving beneath the ice. Explore underwater forests and Wazee Lake’s own shipwreck!

No matter what your winter sport is, you can return to a crackling log fire in our warm and inviting lounge and are offered hot chocolate, tea, coffee or wine to relax and thaw out!

Snowshoeing is a fun, low-cost way to enjoy the winter weather. We have four pairs of lightweight aluminum snowshoes that fit over your own warm winter boots. While snowshoeing is great exercise, it is more challenging than you might think!

Winter enthusiasts will feel right at home at Brambleberry Bed and Breakfast. Whether you enjoy snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice-fishing or even scuba diving under the ice at Lake Wazee, this is the place to stay.

Jackson County has more than 300 miles of groomed snowmobile trails which connect to 500 miles of trails in surrounding counties. There's an easy trail connection about a mile from our B&B.

Connections can be made to every trail in the state. The trails offer the unique experience of varied terrain. On the west side of the county, the trails wind through forest and agricultural land. The rolling landscape is quite steep in places, which is characteristic of the "Coulee Country" of western Jackson County and certainly adds to the challenge. In eastern Jackson County the trails meander through heavily wooded areas and a gentler, more level grade. Choose your path - the scenery is excellent and you will be sure to find well maintained trails which are groomed frequently, including weekends.

The Jackson-Trempealeau County Ridgerunners are people who love to take advantage of Wisconsin winters in extreme.  The grouphas 275 members and takes care of grooming 89 miles of state funded trails and 15 miles of club trails.  Trempealeau County is the setting for 29.5 of the state funded miles and beautiful Jackson County has the remaining 51.5 miles.  We take a great deal of pride in maintaining 10 club miles in Trempealeau County and 5 club miles in Jackson County.  The sum total is equal to hours of thrilling snowmobile fun, for adults and kids of all ages.

Our trail system takes sledders through Beaches Corner, Blair, Ettrick, Happy Hollow, Hixton, Northfield, Taylor, and York.  The grooming superintendent and operating crew are grooming the trails 2-3 times a week ensuring the best trail riding conditions.  Snowmobile enthusiasts believe these trails are some of the best in Wisconsin.

Our trail system is well laid out and consists of two loops, the hub of each being Taylor.  The north loop goes from Taylor through the winding pines to Hixton, along the interstate to Northfield, over the hill to York and across the rolling knolls back to Taylor.  The north loop also has two short spurs, one of them taking the rider from York to the Pigeon-Osseo intersection while the other spur goes part way to Black River Falls from Hixton.  The south loop goes from Taylor through the rolling hills to Happy Hollow, across the flats to Ettrick, over the golf course hill to Beaches Corner, through the old rail road cut to Blair and follows the Trempealeau River back to Taylor.  One of our club trails links Beaches Corner to the trail between Taylor and Happy Hollow.  This trail crosses over one of the highest points in Trempealeau County.  We also have club trails making connecting loops around the city of Blair.
